Hats, hats, hats :: all the colour of the Melbourne Cup

Oh yes, there's something about a horse race on the first tuesday in November.
But there's also something about the most fabulous hats,
which appear on the first tuesday of November in this city.

Today's Melbourne Cup was as elegant and as glamorous as it has been since 1861,
with such beautiful horses, at their absolute peak,
and a glorious collection of colourful confections under the general category of "hats"
upon the heads of the happy race-goers.
See which is your favourite...

The winner of the open Fashions on the Field was the outfit on the left here,
and the Designer's category winner is on the right.
Both are rather whimsical.

Aren't they all gorgeous?
Colourful, elegant and lots of fun.
Oh how I love hats!!

  1. If all these fantastic hats are by local designers then Philip Treacy should feel envy. Gowns are great ensembles to match those whimsical creations.
When it comes to hats always comes to mind the unforgettable racing scene from My Fair Lady and Audrey's delicious, iconic hat and dress. That was the Paramount of style.

    1. Philip Treacy does generally have some of his hats about on Melbourne Cup - but not sure if he did this year. The Designer category (the image with the gown in yellow and white with the military style hat) is by Melbourne designer Craig Braybrook and the open category winner (the pleated blue hat) was by Melbourne milliner Kim Fletcher. So yes, both local.

And I so agree - that black and white dress and hat from My Fair Lady is an image hard to forget. xx

  2. the last with;
red, fushia and orange is fabulous!!!

thank you for the sweet commnet

  3. All of these express the HUGE joy I feel today...!!

  4. AHH I love it, sunshine, frocks and hats - what's not to love:)
Think I prefer the yellow ensemble out of the 2 winners - Happy day sweets,

  5. Spectacular - love to see something pretty, colourful and feminine.
