From Sad Shed to Wow Shed!

If you love this space,
and there is lots to love,
just wait till you see the before version....
Oh dear.
Could it have potential?
Maybe with a new door???...
Yes, a new door just like that!
Radiant transformation
And brilliant to keep the inherent beauty of
this brick and tin roof shed intact in the renovation.
This is how the interior used to look.
And how it looks now,
with the original timber trusses cleaned up,
and zinc soffit retained.

While the masonry walls have been left
with a textured render,
to highlight the bricks behind
& create a rustic finish.
So it is still proud to be a shed, of sorts.
A mezzanine was created to
house a bedroom & bathroom upstairs.

It is a building filled with warmth & light.
"The Shed", by Sydney architect Richard Peters,
won an Urban Design Award last year.
Not surprising really.

Clever, don't you think?

  1. Very clever. In the before picture of the shed it looks so small and dismal - what a transformation into clean and sleek.

  2. Hi Joyful Things,

Yes, I agree the size doesn't seem to match. I think they must have built an extension to the right, where the old car is in the before shot, using matching bricks.

Or else it is just a Dr Who Tardis machine!

  3. i think it is really clever.
wouldn't it be great to have a little studio like that to run away to?

  4. Wow, amazing transformation!! Some people are so resourceful. Do you think there are any sheds like that for sale in Byron Bay?? I'm all inspired.

  5. Amazing! So so clever! x

  6. This is great! Love your blog, now following! Miss Walker xoxo

  7. Gosh, love this. Especially as there are so many bergeries, or goat sheds still for sale in Provence. Gives me hope to one day own again! ;)

But I don't understand the "new door" especially as it seems to slide open to the road. Am I missing something?

  8. Hi Heather, yes I have to agree with you about where the door goes. There wasn't any other information about it, so I figured it is the main road that it faces onto. Maybe they have lots of street parties so they can open the door to the world! But I love the boldness of the sliding, overscale front door, to replace the old roller door. It says something about the boldness of the renovation ~ by keeping the industrial feel.
It sounds romantic and exciting to buy a goat shed in Provence and turn it into a studio/ home! Oh, the possibilities!
