Gorgeous, gorgeous garden designs on Show!

How I love the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, held each autumn in the picturesque Carlton Gardens. There are witty gardens, serious gardens, deeply romantic gardens - each freshly assembled and at the height of perfection.

I spent Sunday trotting around in a haze of happiness, simply absorbing the wonderful site of thousands of people enraptured by the power of gardens.

Refreshingly tangible little number on the Design Industry Awards

The shortlist for this year's Interior Design Awards is out for public perusal.

One of the houses in the Residential Design category particularly caught my eye, partly because of its use of warm, textured materials (which always gives a building a sense of quiet) and partly because it looks like someone actually not only lives here, but looks like they should really enjoy living here. Hey, even the dog looks pretty relaxed by the fire!

See what you think...

The house has been designed by Mac-Interactive Architects (Sydney).

Easter Egg Hunt

How gorgeous is it to watch children scrambling
under and over bushes in a garden
to spot the yummy goodies in an Easter Egg Hunt?

We hosted an Easter Egg Hunt
yesterday for a school function
(a bunch of 11 year olds who were obviously
not too old for such merriment).

Inspired by the classic Alice in Wonderland story,

and the cute White Rabbit, I created an invitation

that doubles up as a box to collect the eggs.

It was great fun to watch the children hunting for the tiny eggs and filling their boxes.

Dream House in Melbourne, anyone?

Fresh on the market is this beautiful sculptural form that is very restful on the eye. If you would like to live in leafy Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia, it may just be for you....

Designed by architect Roger Wood, it is a wonderful play of possibilities of the organic shapes that can be formed with concrete.

If you would like to see more images, it has its very own website to sell the property. Drool over it at

Yummy rugs now it's starting to feel like autumn...

Have you noticed a slight cosy chill in the air
in the last week or so?
Melbourne is getting ready for gorgeous autumn,
with Indian summer days of golden sun and crisper nights -
with all the anticipation of snuggly things!
Inspired by the cooler weather,
I have a penchant for shaggy rugs at the moment.
Always on the hunt for interesting textures
that make a space instantly welcoming and appealing,
I think that tactile rugs are a great way
to unify a room and give it more depth.
For my own house, I have chosen a 70's inspired shaggy rug
in blacks, creams and taupes, shown above.
I can't wait till it arrives!
