Did somebody mention hats?

That somebody would be me!
Determined to give hats the time and respect they deserve,
because the art of hat-wearing is certainly a glamorous one.

These glorious confections are from the master hand of Suzy O'Rourke,
a Sydney based milliner with a penchant for the dramatic.
And sultry they are.
Far too beautiful to wear just to the races.
They would be gorgeous for an afternoon tête-à-tête,
or an evening at the theatre.
Because they suit a dramatic starring role.

If you have been reading for a while,
you would know that I can find any excuse to wear a beautiful hat.
They are practical as well as stylish.

But would you wear hats like these?
Or would you be too self-conscious?

  1. Hi Virginia, I love hats - some people have said I have a hat face (whatever that is ;-) I don't really wear hats though- but I would for a special occasion - like a wedding, or the horse races:) Such a glamorous addition to an outfit. Hope you are well sweets, and that it's hot where you are. Here the winter keeps coming back with snow and more snow. We need some heat ha ha.
    Happy wednesday

  2. Hello Virginia:
We are absolutely with you here. We love hats and wear them all the time....well, not exactly ALL the time!!And, there is nothing better than a hand made hat. The fit is always wonderful and the hat feels comfortable to wear and so one is not tempted to fiddle with it. These designs are so very attractive. The perfect combination of drama and suitability. Wonderful!

  3. Virginia-
Check out my post about the famous milliner, Dillon Wallwork. You should attend the Millinery classes at Chateau Dumas. Even if you never make another hat, you would adore your time there. You can click on the Chateau Dumas site from my blog The Little Red Diary.

I love hats of all kinds. When I was a flight attendant for Pan Am, we wore a hat (and gloves) whenever we were in uniform, except on board once the aircraft doors had been closed. For the first few years, the uniform hat was a Borsalino, and then it was a fedora; both were Italian-made and rather fine. That is when I realized what how much fun it could be to wear a hat!

  6. I love a fun hat... and yes I would wear them... I really love big hats with lots of decoration for the summer... especially in the garden or at the beach... life in the city makes it a bit more difficult to wear them... but I wish we did... :)
    Have a happy weekend xv
