It always amazes me just how much loveliness fresh flowers can bring to a simple day.
I picked this arrangement on the weekend,
to fill a 1930s crystal basket vase, found in an antique shop a while ago,
which my cat thinks is actually his water bowl.
(He refuses to drink out of anything other than a vase,
after all, it would just be too predictable to drink from a cat bowl. No, no, no.)

Well, how about a little cocktail or two to get into the spirit of October,
and to honour the glorious birthstone of the month,
that multifarious Opal?
This is an oldie, but a goodie.
And citrus flavoured cocktails always seem to be popular,
whatever the season.
Which reminds me, we're out of Cointreau. Again...

As the only birthstone which comes in absolutely any colour,
the beautiful Opal of October is
a gem reflecting the colour and pattern variations found in nature's bounty.
From palest ivory, tinged with blush pink, in Milk Opals
through cobalt blues & emerald greens in Black Opals,
to the lively radiance of the Fire Opal in lustrous orange and red,
this is one gem which simply will not be categorised.
But let's have a look at its story to discover a little more...

As we are on a roll lately with houses holding architectural history merit,
I can't bear to let this little gem slip through.
Designed in 1922,
by the American architectural duo of Walter Burley Griffin & Marion Mahoney Griffin,
the Salter House is up for sale for only the 3rd time in its history.
It's one of the few houses designed by them which are still left standing in Australia.

While walking in my neighbourhood the other day,
I happened across this rather gorgeous,
gate made from fallen branches.
So delightfully simple, yet so very beautiful.
I guess it wouldn't keep out stampedes of wild elephants,
but I haven't noticed any elephants around here lately,
so this does rather nicely!
Do you like it?

It's probably no surprise that blue is my favourite colour.
(And, for an interior designer, it's hard to classify a "favourite".
I love all colour. )
I love all colour. )
Pale blue is delicate, navy is sophisticated. Aqua is forever summer.
But Sapphire Blue...ah...it's in a league of its own in the glamour stakes.
So, despite the fact that we have left September behind,
and Halloween is bearing down upon us,
I can't bear to think that we have left September's birthstone out of our series,
so just before we honour the Opal of October,
let's revel in the utter glamour and beauty of the lustrously rich blue Sapphire....

Not sure how September truly escaped me,
but in between dashing off interstate to visit my father, managing some rather wonderful projects,
settling my youngest into a new school and life in general,
there has been nary a moment, in the last few weeks, to post any thoughts on Glamour Drops.
But when I found this beautiful front facade,
belonging to a house for sale in Malvern,
with its glorious marching sentinels of fence pillars,
I just couldn't resist lingering over the images for a few moments,
because it truly is a Fabulous Front Entrance,
and worthy of reflection.
