Pears...the beauty of an irregular form

As imperfect shapes are often more interesting than perfect ones,
the humble pear is a prime example of the beauty of asymmetrical form.
These pears have been sculptured from copper wire,
and being hand-made,
each is as irregular in shape as the fruit to which
they owe their inspiration.
One of the most voluptuous of all orchard fruits,
each pear is slightly different from its mates.
And therein lies the beauty.
Of course, a solo pear is just as beautiful,
for when on their own,
the curvaceous, generous shape can be celebrated.
And if you love pears as much as I do,
you may just adore this sweet little pear notepad
from the new Inkyco boutique paper goods company.
The more pieces of paper you take,
the more pear you see!
It's no wonder that pears have been the subject
of still-life art for so many centuries.
By painting them an unlikely colour,
Susan McCormick's "blue pears"
celebrates the shapely form of a duo of pears,
by placing the emphasis on shape itself.
So nature shows us, once again,
how an irregular form can be just as beautiful as a symmetrical one.

Oh, and as a final sweet note,
pears are absolutely delicious to eat!
What a perfect fruit!

Agree, the pear is a beautiful fruit and looks amazing in a fruit bowl decorating my side board or kitchen island. Just finished renovating (though not sure if you ever finish but finished the main extension) and now looking for ideas to decorate. G

  2. Hello Georgy and welcome to Glamour Drops! Congratulations on surviving the rigors of building the extension and now you can have some fun with the decorative elements. I hope you will find some ideas here for inspiration.
Laughed about never finishing a renovation. Bit like painting Sydney Harbour Bridge, I think...you just finish one end when it is time to start painting the other end again!

  3. Hi virginia

there is that something special about pears!  Love the country effect that they can instantly bring to a home.

I think from memory that pears are one of the least allergenic food to eat - so eat up :)

    have a wonderful day

I love the first one and the giant white one. Never thought of pears as objects of design - but now I do :O)
    Have a great day Virginia,

I too love pears.. and apples. I love their shape. They are friendly, graphic and easy to incorporate into table styling, art and just generally in a large bowl somewhere in the house.

Your inspiration pictures are wonderful. Thank you.

    Hugs from the North.

    Hello Virginia:
In praise of pears! And rightly so for they are the most wonderful of fruits and, we think, at their peak right now. We love all of these images which you show here and think that the pears made from copper wire at the start of the post are truly lovely as art works. We should certainly find a home for them, as we would that single specimen sitting on top of the beautifully distressed piano. Just our thing - or fruit!
