An Arch wherethrough Gleams the untravelled world...

"I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethrough
gleams that untravelled world,
whose margin fades
for ever and ever when I move"
Lord Alfred Tennyson, Ulysses, 1833
Is there anything as lovely as an arch
in a magically luxuriant garden?

  2. What a gorgeous quote by Tennyson! And that first picture does it justice! Wish I had the house finished, let alone the garden! LOL!

  4. Hello Virginia:
    An archway framing a view is, in our view, a most attractive device in a garden. It focuses the eye and yet draws one on to explore further. It adds intrigue and mystery as only a small part of the scene is revealed at any one point. All three of the examples you show are beguiling.
